4First Aid Measures
4.1 Description of first aid measures
- Wash out immediately with fresh running water.
- Ensure complete irrigation of the eye by keeping eyelids apart and away from eye and moving the eyelids by occasionally lifting the upper and lower lids.
- Seek medical attention without delay; if pain persists or recurs seek medical attention.
- Removal of contact lenses after an eye injury should only be undertaken by skilled personnel.
- Flush skin and hair with running water and soap if available.
- Seek medical attention in event of irritation.
- If fumes, aerosols or combustion products are inhaled, remove from contaminated area.
- Other measures are usually unnecessary.
- Immediately give a glass of water.
- If swallowed do NOT induce vomiting. Seek immediate medical advice.
- If vomiting occurs, lean patient forward or place on left side (head-down position, if possible) to maintain open airway and prevent aspiration.
- Never give liquid to a person showing signs of being sleepy or with reduced awareness; i.e. becoming unconscious.
- If in doubt, contact a Poisons Information Centre or a doctor.

5Firefighting Measures
5.1 Extinguishing media
There is no restriction on the type of extinguisher which may be used.
Use fire-extinguishing media suitable for the surrounding area.
5.2 Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture
- Avoid contamination with oxidising agents i.e. nitrates, oxidising acids, chlorine bleaches, pool chlorine etc. as ignition may result.
- May emit poisonous and/or corrosive fumes.
- Carbon Monoxide (CO), Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and oxides of Sodium and Potassium may be liberated on combustion.
- Other pyrolysis products typical of burning organic material.
5.3 Advice for firefighters
- Alert Fire Brigade and tell them location and nature of hazard.
- Wear breathing apparatus plus protective gloves in the event of a fire.
- Prevent, by any means available, spillage from entering the drains or water courses.
- Use fire fighting procedures suitable for surrounding area.
- DO NOT approach containers suspected to be hot.
- Cool fire exposed containers with water spray from a protected location.
- If safe to do so, remove containers from path of fire.
- Equipment should be thoroughly decontaminated after use.
- No additional data available.
6Accidental Release Measures
6.1 Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures
See Section 8.
6.2 Environmental Precautions
See Section 12.
6.3 Methods and material for containment and cleaning up
- Clean up all spills immediately.
- Avoid contact with eyes.
- Control personal contact with the substance, by using protective equipment.
6.4 Reference to other sections
For waste disposal, see Section 13.
7Handling and Storage
7.1 Precautions for safe handling
- Avoid contact with incompatible materials.
- When handling, DO NOT eat, drink or smoke.
- Keep container securely sealed when not in use.
- Avoid physical damage to containers.
- Always wash hands with soap and water after handling.
- Use good occupational work practice.
- Store in original container.
- Check regularly for spills and leaks.
- Check that containers are clearly labelled.
- Keep container securely sealed.
7.2 Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities
Stable at normal, ambient temperatures.
Packaging as recommended by manufacturer - polyethylene or polypropylene containers.
Store away from sources of ignition, heat and oxidising agents.
7.3. Specific end use(s)
As detailed in Section 1.2
8Exposure Controls/Personal Protection
8.1 Control Parameters
None
8.2 Exposure Controls
Protective Equipment:
- Local exhaust ventilation usually required.
- If risk of overexposure exists, wear approved respirator. Correct fit is essential to obtain adequate protection. Supplied-air type respirator may be required in special circumstances. Correct fit is essential to ensure adequate protection.
- Provide adequate ventilation in warehouse or closed storage area.
- Provide eye wash station.
- Avoid contact with eyes.
- Use safety glasses with side shields in accordance with standard EN166 or AS/NZS 1337.1.
- Contact lenses may pose a special hazard; soft contact lenses may absorb and concentrate irritants. In the event of chemical exposure, begin eye irrigation immediately and remove contact lens as soon as practical. Lens should be removed at the first signs of eye redness or irritation, in a clean environment only after works have washed hands thoroughly.
- Gloves must be worn only on clean hands.
- After using gloves, hands should be washed and dried thoroughly.
- Use suitable protective gloves that are resistant to chemical agents in accordance with standard EN374, AS/NZS 2161.1.
- Gloves must be selected according to the application and duration of use at the workstation.
- Protective gloves need to be selected according to their suitability for the workstation in question: other chemical products that may behandled, necessary physical protections (cutting, pricking, heat protection), level of dexterity required.
- Recommended properties: Impervious gloves in accordance with standard EN374 or AS/NZS 2161.1
- Wear safety footwear or safety gumboots, e.g. rubber.
- Overalls.
- Provide adequate ventilation, especially in confined areas.
- Wear respirator as appropriate.

This material is not thought to produce adverse health effects or irritation of the respiratory tract (as classified by EC Directives using animal models). Nevertheless, good hygiene practice requires that exposure be kept to a minimum and that suitable control measures be used in an occupational setting.
- Accidental ingestion of the material may be damaging to the health of the individual.
- Nonionic surfactants may produce localised irritation of the oral or gastrointestinal mucosa and induce vomiting and mild diarrhoea.
- Large oral doses of salicylates may cause mild burning pain in the throat, stomach and usually prompt vomiting. Several hours may elapse before the development of deep and rapid breathing, lassitude, nausea, vomiting, thirst and occasional diarrhoea.
- Skin contact is not thought to have harmful health effects (as classified under EC Directives); the material may still produce health damage following entry through wounds, lesions or abrasions.
- Skin irritation may also be present after prolonged or repeated exposure; this may result in a form of contact dermatitis (nonallergic). The dermatitis is often characterised by skin redness and swelling which may progress to blistering, scaling and thickening of the epidermis.
- Open cuts, abraded or irritated skin should not be exposed to this material.
- Although the liquid is not thought to be an irritant (as classified by EC Directives), direct contact with the eye may produce transient discomfort characterised by tearing or conjunctival redness (as with windburn).
- Skin contact with the material may be capable of inducing a sensitization reaction.
- Inhalation of the material may be capable of inducing a sensitization reaction.
- Pulmonary sensitization, resulting in hyperactive airway dysfunction and pulmonary allergy may be accompanied by fatigue, malaise and aching.
